Police won't train civilians who will go to Lebanon

JAKARTA (Antara, Aug. 16, 2006): Police and military will not train
civilians, who will take part in a war in other countries like Lebanon and Palestine
because military training for civilians are only for the nation's self-defense.

"Training for self-defense for the nation has certain criteria. Meanwhile,
there is no legal basis for training for civilians, who will go war to other
countries," National Police spokesman Isp. Gen. Paulus Purwoko was quoted by
Antara news agency as saying.

Paulus responded to the request of the Indonesian Mujahiddin Council (MMI) to
train its members before they leave for Lebanon and Palestine to fight
against Israel.

MMI spokesman Fauzan al Anshori said previously that as many as 500 of its
fighters were ready to go to Lebanon. He demanded that the Indonesian military
and police will train them before their departure.

The Islamic Defenders Force (FPI) also said that it had sent as many as 20 of
its members to Lebanon to join the fight against Israel.
