JSX drops on falls in heavyweight Telkom, BRI

JAKARTA (AP): Indonesian shares dropped Friday as falls in heavyweight 
Telekomunikasi Indonesia and Bank Rakyat Indonesia erased gains in the previous 
session.

The Jakarta Stock Exchange Composite index ended down 13.285 points or 1 
percent at 1,290.164.

The local currency rupiah also fell in line with the slide of other regional 
units against the dollar.

The greenback which touched an intraday high of 9,440 rupiah, closed at 
9,400, up from Thursday's close at 9,355 rupiah.

Telekomunikasi Indonesia, the nation's largesttelecommunication company by 
subscribers and assets, dropped 3.3 percent to Rp 7,250 after its American 
Depository Receipts in New York fell 2.5 percent.

Bank Rakyat Indonesia, the nation's fourth largest lender by assets, lost 1.8 
percent to Rp 4,000 and the second largest Bank Central Asia, ended down 0.6 
percent to Rp 4,075 on profit taking.

On the upside, car distributor Astra International rose 1.1 percent to Rp 
9,600 rupiah on bargain hunting.
