Meredith to launch Parents magazine in Indonesia
By DAVID PITT
AP Business Writer
DES MOINES, Iowa, June 26 (AP) - Magazine and book publisher
Meredith Corp. said Monday that it will distribute Parents magazine
in Indonesia as it continues to expand the distribution of its popular
magazine titles into international markets.
Meredith announced a Chinese version of Better Homes & Gardens
earlier this month and said it is distributing More magazine in Canada
and Spanish-language versions of Diabetic Living and some book titles
in Spain.
The Des Moines-based company has expanded its reach from one
international license to 11 in less than two years, said John Zieser,
Meredith's vice president of corporate development, in a statement.
Parents magazine will be distributed in Jakarta and Indonesia's
largest cities beginning early next year.
One of Indonesia's leading media companies, Pt Metromakmur
Sejahtera -- a subsidiary of Mahaka Media -- has entered an
exclusive multiyear licensing agreement to publish the magazine,
Meredith said in a statement.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Indonesia has a population of more than 240 million.
"Our agreement with Mahaka Media further broadens our plan to
extend our magazine brands and editorial expertise outside of the
United States," Zieser said.
Mahaka Media publishes Golf Digest Indonesia in addition to
Bahasa-Indonesia and Mandarin-language newspapers and books.
The company also owns radio stations, JAK TV, video and animation
production, sports event management and billboard advertising.
Parents magazine has been published in the United States for 75
years. The Indonesian edition will offer a variety of original content
with a strong local cultural focus, as well as expert information on
global trends, lifestyle, health and safety issues.
Meredith publishes 25 subscription magazines including Better
Homes and Gardens and Ladies' Home Journal and about 200
special interest publications. Its broadcast division owns 14
television stations.
