Indonesia Sept Exports $8.78 Bln Vs $8.89B In Aug
JAKARTA, November 1 (Dow Jones)--Indonesia's trade surplus
edged down to $3.12 billion in September from $3.27 billion
in August due to a fall in the country's crude oil price in
the global market, the Central Statistics Agency said
Wednesday.
The trade surplus was largely in line with market
expectations of $3.19 billion. In September last year, the
surplus was $2.60 billion. [ 01-11-06 0712GMT ]
The agency said that the average Indonesian crude oil price
fell to $62.49/barrel in September from $72.82/bbl a month
earlier in line with the sharp decline in oil prices
globally.
This helped drag Indonesia's exports lower to $8.78 billion
in September from $8.89 billion in August, the agency said.
In addition, the rising volume of crude and petroleum
products imports pushed the value of imports higher, which
contributed to the slightly reduced trade surplus.
The government usually increases the fuel supply during the
Islam Idul Fitri celebration as many Muslims travel back to
their home towns to celebrate the holiday with relatives.
"Although overall exports fell (on month), they are still
strong," said the agency's chief, Rusman Heriawan. "The non-
oil and gas exports, meanwhile, gained 2.1% on month." Non-
oil and gas exports were $7.19 billion in September.
Overall imports rose slightly to $5.66 billion from $5.62
billion in August, on higher imports of crude oil and
petroleum products.
Crude oil imports rose to $703.2 million in September from
$566.9 million a month before, and petroleum product imports
increased to $1.22 billion from $1.1 billion.
The data showed Indonesia was again a net crude oil importer
in terms of value in September when crude oil exports value
was $615.8 million, down from $657.8 million in August.
Exports of petroleum products dropped to $204.2 million in
September from $279.2 million in August, and natural gas
exports fell to $771.9 million from $908.1 million.
The total trade surplus for the January-September period was
up 48% to $27.84 billion from $18.84 billion a year earlier.
Total exports during the first-nine months of the year rose
to $73.47 billion from $62.69 billion during the previous
year while imports rose to $45.63 billion from $43.85
billion, the agency said.
