China becomes Indonesia's largest import supplier
China for the first time ever became the largest supplier of
Indonesia's non-oil import in the first nine months of 2006,
according to the data released by the Central Statistics
Agency (BPS) Wednesday.
Non-oil import from China valued at 4.01 billion U.S.
dollars to surpass Japan and the United States which were
traditionally Indonesia's largest suppliers.
Japan closely followed with 3.97 billion dollars, trailed by
the United States with 3.2 billion and Singapore with 2.7
billion.
"We already expected that China will slowly but surely
dominate Indonesia's import," BPS head Rusman Heriawan told
a news conference here.
Indonesia's total import in the period rose by 4.04 percent
to 45.63 billion dollars -- comprising 31.2 billion non-oil
import and 14.5 billion oil and gas import -- against 43.86
billion in the corresponding period last year.
Monthly import in September barely changed at 5.66 billion
dollars against 5.62 billion a month earlier.
China topped the list of individual non-oil supplier with
525.5 million dollars in September, trailed by Japan with
434.2 million, the United States with 358.6 million and
Singapore with 347.7 million.
