Bandung police uncover firearms assembling syndicate
Bandung, August 31 (Antara) - Bandung police have
uncovered a firearms assembling syndicate suspected of
supplying weapons to members of separatist groups in
Indonesia. Central Bandung police chief Adj.Sr.Comr.
Mashudi told the press here Thursday the police have
also detained a firearm assembler suspect and two
other suspects of illegal firearms sale, confiscated
two units of hand-made FN short guns, six pistol
bullets and a firearms assembling machine.
Police have suspected that the uncovered arms
assembler syndicate has supplied their products to
separatist groups, and carried the illegal activities
for a long time as the ring has professionally
assembled its weapons.
The weapons produced by the syndicate is almost 90
percent perfect, so the Central Bandung police chief
does not rule out the possibility that the syndicate
has sold their guns to illegal arm traders who then
supplied the weapons to separatist movements in Aceh,
Ambon, Poso and Papua.
"We are still studying the possibility that other
illegal firearms assembling groups are involved in the
illegal weapon production by the just uncovered
syndicate here," according to Mashudi.
