IEC (Intensive Educational Campaign) for 67 participants at the same place 
focusing on diarrhoea and antenatal care. 

Water and Sanitation 
Mercy Corps has approved three water/sanitation projects in Poso and Morowali 
Districts. The projects will be implemented by Yayasan Panorama Alam Lestari 
(YPAL), Yayasan Pembangunan Masyarakat (YPM) and Yayasan Dian Wacana. It will 
provide water intakes in Sepe, Silanca (Poso) and Peleru (Morowali). More than 
1,200 households are expected to benefit from a total of 39 water distribution 
points in the three villages. 

Shelter and non-food items 
Mercy Corps approved a project proposal from Yayasan Tanah Poso, which will 
include non-food items (pans, cups and spoons) to 41 households whose houses 
were burned in Matako village (Tojo sub district). In addition, it will 
distribute 60 litre water containers and agriculture tools such as hoes and 
sickles to 557 households, as well as 26 hand sprayers to farmer groups in 
Matako. 

4. MALUKU 

General Situation 
A source from Maluku Governor's office stated on Monday (11 Nov.) that the Home 
Ministry decided to extend the service of Mr. Saleh Latuconsina as Governor of 
the Province for one more month. The source also said that an extension of 
another one-month would be considered after the expiration. 

According to a local newspaper, Siwalima, on Wednesday (13 Nov.), Maluku's 
Chief of Police, Brigadier General (Police) Bambang Sutrisno hosted 802 members 
of Mobile Police Patrol (BRIMOB), who just arrived in Maluku from Jakarta, 
Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, Manado and Kendari. The new troops will replace the 
current force that is expected to leave the province by 13 November. 

Population movement 
According to local newspaper, Siwalima, on Wednesday (13 Nov.), the Indonesian 
Navy Commander, Letkol Buyung Lalana, who is in charge of the Navy Complex at 
Halong (Ambon Island), confirmed that there are currently 6,124 IDPs in Halong 
camp and further arrivals would be expected. He also said that the return 
process of the IDPs have to be based on the government policy and should 
maintain regular coordination with the government. 

Assessments 
A MSF-B medical team is conducting consultation, treatment and health 
assessment in South Buru. While in Ambon, it is conducting mental health and 
skin disease assessment during this week. Following last week's earthquake, a 
team from Maluku has also been sent to Manokwari (Papua) to give medical 
assistance. According to its preliminary report, more than 13,000 people are 
affected by the disaster and urgent assistance, such as clean water and 
shelter, is required. 

A Mercy Corps' team has left Ambon for South Buru from 14 to 20 November, to 
monitor and assess water and sanitation projects in several villages, as well 
as to conduct a preliminary monitoring of a school rehabilitation project in 
Wamkana in the same area.
