Workshop in Banda Aceh for 25 SC US staff and its partners from Tangse,
Lamteuba, Lampanah and Pulo Aceh sub-districts of Pidie and Great Aceh.
Education
UNICEF monitored the use of ten emergency tents provided for destroyed schools
in Simeulue Island. Using these tents, UNICEF conducted education programmes in
the targeted areas affected by the quake.
UNICEF discussed the issue of distribution / delivery of "School in the Box"
materials with the Department of Education.
Resettlement
A team from CARDI travelled to Pidie from 21 to 22 November to evaluate its
Resettlement Programme in the district.
Livelihood
CARDI conducted a field trip on Thursday (21 Nov.) to Great Aceh to monitor its
baseline data assessment with their partner, Panglima Laot.
On Wednesday (20 Nov.), CARDI's local partners (Muhammadyah, SSG, and Panglima
Laot) attended procurement sessions prior to the implementation of their
projects.
Others
Since Monday (18 Nov.), OCHA has assisted the Government in the development of
a draft Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) on Emergency Preparedness for
Natural Disasters (fire, earthquake, floods, and IDPs).
3. CENTRAL SULAWESI
General Situation
The police reported that a bomb was exploded at the office of the Head of
Village (Kelurahan) in Kayamanya, Poso, on Thursday (21 Nov.). The police said
there were no injuries, but reported minor physical damage. The explosion
occurred around 9:00 p.m., during the Ramadhan night prayers.
Assessments
IMC initiated a survey on general health knowledge and practices (KAP), and
water/sanitation resources in Poso District. This week, 67 households from 8
communities in Pamona Utara were surveyed. A total of 250 households will be
randomly surveyed in Poso Kota, Poso Pesisir, Pamona Utara and Lore Utara.
Health
IMC operated 7 mobile clinics in Poso Pesisir and Pamona Utara during this week
and treated 764 patients, consisting of 363 women over 15 years (22 of them
were pregnant) and 176 children under 5 years. A total of 22 government staff
also assisted in the clinics. IMC also held 7 Intensive Educational Campaign
(IEC) sessions that were attended by 673 participants. The sessions covered
various topics, such as antenatal care, diarrhoea and immunization.
Food security
Mercy Corps approved the implementation of a seed and tool project by a local
NGO, Yayasan Amasuta. It will distribute various seeds and farming tools (hoes
and hand sprayers) to three villages in Lore Utara, Alitupu, Tadolo and Keduwa.
This project will reach 118 households (472 beneficiaries).
4. MALUKU
General Situation
A local newspaper, Ambon Ekspress, on Saturday (16 Nov.) reported that a man
was critically injured during a fight in Wailisa Village in Central Maluku on
14 November between the villagers and a group of returnees, who arrived by
boat. The incident occurred because of a misunderstanding of the returnees
arrival, as they were suspected as hostile intruders by the villagers.
Assessment
CARDI conducted an assessment to determine the type of urgent assistance
required by 15 schools in six CARDI operation areas (Pohon Mangga, Passo,
Halong, Wayame, Hila and Tulehu) on Ambon Island.
