Rural Appraisal (PRA) to select target population and conduct a needs 
assessment for its Poso Urban Livelihood Emergency Recovery (PULER) programme 
in North Pamona and Poso Pesisir sub-districts. Two thousand families are 
selected as beneficiaries of PULER programme. 

On Friday and Monday (27 and 30 June), Mercy Corps met with LNGOs, Karunia and 
Salami, to discuss their programme proposals on Micro Finance and Business 
Development Service. 

On Monday (30 June), Mercy Corps received a proposal on Micro Finance and 
Business Development Service in Rononucu Gebang Rejo, Lembomawo of Poso Kota 
sub-district from an LNGO, YLKM Berdikari. 

4. MALUKU 

General Situation 
A local newspaper, Info Baru, quoted the Maluku Military Area Commander 
(Pangdam) XVI Pattimura, Maj. Gen. Agustadi Sasongko, on 27 June, saying that 
the removal of most of the security check posts in Ambon City was to show that 
security situation was getting normal. He added that TNI would be replaced by 
mobile patrols to monitor and control the security situation in Ambon. 

A local radio station, DMS Radio News, quoted Ambon Mayor, Drs. M.J Papilaya, 
on 23 June, saying that the City Council would not allow IDPs from other 
islands to construct houses in Ambon city due to limited availability of land. 
According to the Mayor, the total number of IDPs in Ambon is about 40,000 
people. 

Info Baru reported on Tuesday (1 July) that a bomb was discovered on Monday (30 
June) at a small restaurant on Jl. D.I Panjaitan close to offices of Provincial 
Public Work in Ambon City. A special bomb squad from Brimob Maluku took care of 
the bomb. 

Assessment 
WFP monitored its Food for Work programmes that are being implemented through 
LNGOs, Lembaga Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Desa (LPMP), in Pandang Kasturi and Batu 
Merah villages of Ambon City, and Peduli Alam Laut Semesta (PAUS) in Lateri, 
Halong and Rumah Tiga villages of Ambon Island. 

WFP visited Honipopu village of Ambon Island to assess feasibility of funding 
projects through LNGOs, Yayasan Peduli Tani Nelayan and Yayasan Pengusaha Kecil 
Sejahtera (YPTNKS). 

Mercy Corps monitored progress of its Non-food Items Project in Waemeteng sub-
village (implemented by an LNGO, Yayasan Gita Kasih), and School Projects in 
Latu Hualoi and Waitasi sub villages (by Yayasan Fikir Maluku). Mercy Corps 
also monitored progress of its Water and Sanitation Projects in Kairatu village 
(by Yayasan Pengembangan Karya Masyarakat), Kaibobu village (by Yayasan Sosial 
Kasih Ibu) and Nurue village (by Yayasan Pemerhati Lingkungan Masyarakat 
Mandiri). These villages are located in West Seram sub-district of Central 
Maluku district. 

AcF completed the first phase of assessment for income generation programme and 
identified locations for the activities on Ambon Island. AcF also held meetings 
with officials from Provincial Fishery and Agriculture Departments to discuss 
the programme. 

UNDP monitored a bidding process for a rehabilitation of schools building 
programme for eight schools in Petak Sepuluh area of Ambon City. Implementation 
of the programme involves Ambon City Council and the local community. 

Food Security and Agriculture 
Mercy Corps provided funds to an LNGO, Pusat Peran Serta Masyarakat, to 
distribute seeds and tools in Wakal, Hitu, Hulung, Telaga Kodok villages of 
Ambon Island. Total beneficiaries are 955 people. 

Health 
IMC conducted a total of 1,342 health consultations on Seram Island of Central 
Maluku district (covering Masohi municipality, Taniwel, Kobisonta, Werinama, 
Waesala and Tehoru) and on Buru Island of Buru district (covering Wamsisi, 
Leksula and Waemulang), as well as through Srikandi mobile clinic services. 

Under its Rehabilitation and Reactivation of Community Based Health Care 
Services Programme, IMC has completed rehabilitation of 8 pustus in Werinama 
and Tehoru of West Seram, and 7 pustus in Wahai and Kobisonta of North Seram. 
Meanwhile, the project for Waikating health post on Buru Island is still on 
going. 

On Sunday (29 June), IMC completed the second phase of its training on Safe 
Delivery in Ambon Al-Fattah hospital. 

Water and Sanitation 
Mercy Corps funded an LNGO, Yayasan Lintas, to implement a Water and Sanitation 
programme in Tihu sub-village, Waesala village, West Seram sub-district of 
Central Maluku district. 

Education 
Mercy Corps provided funds to an LNGO, Lembaga Karya Anak Bangsa, to distribute 
study books in Hatumete village of Seram island. 

Economic Recovery and Infrastructure 
Mercy Corps provided funds to an LNGO, Kwartir Daerah Gerakan Pramuka, to carry 
out peace building activities for 25 participants in Suli village Ambon Island. 

WFP conducted training on Distribution Methods and Development of Activity 
Report for an LNGO Rinamakana that work with Waai IDPs in Passo town of Ambon 
Island. 

UNDP is reviewing proposals for reconstruction of Christian University Maluku 
(UKIM) and Darussalam University on Ambon Island.
