3. MALUKU 

General Situation 
A local press, Info Baru, reported on 22 July that Lieutenant Supri, member of 
Army Special Force (KOPASSUS), discovered a hand made bomb near the State Court 
office of Ambon City on 21 July evening. The device was safely diffused by 
special Maluku Police bomb squad. 

A local news paper, Ambon Ekspress, on 22 July quoted Brigadier General Bambang 
Sutrisno, Head of Maluku Police, that the Police and TNI have mobilized 1,132 
personnel for a joint security force to secure the upcoming governor election 
process. 

Assessment 
WFP Ambon and a LNGO Yayasan Pelangi Nusantara visited several IDP locations in 
Ambon city (Wisma Atlit, Kopperatis and Latuhalat villages) to assess the 
possibility for Food for Work programme activities of WFP. 

WFP Country Director for Indonesia, Mr. Mohammad Saleheen, visited Ambon city 
from 18 to 20 July. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the implementation 
of WFP programme in support to government's effort for the IDPs return, 
settlement, reintegration and empowerment in the province. During the visit he 
met with the provincial government officials responsible for IDP issues, UN 
agencies and also visited one IDP returnee village. 

MCI monitored water and sanitation projects in Lilibooi and Allang villages of 
Ambon island. The projects are implemented by LNGOs Yayasan Ina Hasalaut and 
Yayasan Hauwa Sejahtera. 

During the week AcF conducted post distribution monitoring of seeds and tools 
distributed in North Buru of Buru Island.
